Fifteen years of cable ties mold making in Taizhou, and a process you can follow

The first question most customers ask is: "How much for this mold?"
Honestly, that's not a question we can answer in one number. The same cable ties can come in at twice the price depending on whether the tool runs 10 cavities or 20, whether your injection machine tons are 200 or 500, how many cooling circuits it needs, and whether it needs slides. So at Younger Mold we usually start with this: send us the drawing or a sample part, let us know the size of your product and we'll talk price once we've looked at it.
Younger Mold has been making cable ties molds in Taizhou China for over fifteen years.
There are plenty of mold shops along this industrial belt, and the ones that last aren't the ones with the most expensive machines. They're the ones that don't skip steps.
Every mold goes through the same sequence between drawing and shipment. First comes a design review, where we look for shapes that can't be molded the way they're drawn: undercuts, uneven wall thickness, not enough draft. Fixing those on the drawing costs far less time and money than fixing them after the steel has been cut. Only then does the quote go out. Design, steel, machining, heat treatment, trials. Where we can itemize, we itemize, instead of bundling everything into "about this much." We start cutting only after the customer has signed off on the mold design. Then roughing and finishing, wire EDM and sinker EDM, polishing, then assembly and the first trial. After that first trial the customer gets a report with sample parts and measured dimensions, showing which dimensions are stable and which still need adjustment.
A tool that comes out perfect on the first trial is rare in this trade. Rework is normal. What differs is how fast it happens and whether anyone is watching it. So from order to delivery we send updates every week, with photos from the shop floor going straight to the customer's group chat, so nobody has to keep asking how far along the job is. After delivery we keep the repair history and the wear-part specifications on file, so when ejector pins or springs need replacing years later, we check the record instead of guessing.
There are also jobs we turn down. If a shape clearly can't be molded, we won't say yes just to book the order. If a deadline is tight enough that accuracy would suffer, we'd rather the customer go somewhere else. In this trade, one round of rework costs more than one order you didn't take.
What customers judge us on is simple: does the part fit, does it run steadily in production, and can they reach someone when something goes wrong. Get those three right and the price conversation gets a lot easier.
Some of our customers are overseas, and the earliest of them have been with us for years, placing order after order. They started small too, with a single tool. We shipped sample parts, they ran them on their own machine, and only after that passed did we talk about the rest. Overseas buyers inspect closely. Dimensional reports, steel mill certificates, surface treatment, export packing, rust protection: none of it is optional. A few years back, when traveling wasn't practical, we inspected tools over video, camera pointed at the mold, working through the points one at a time. What keeps those relationships going is the same process they saw at the start. If a dimension is off, we fix it, we re-send samples, and we don't point fingers.
Send us the drawing. We'll look at whether we can make it, and if we can, you'll get a straight price. If it's not a fit, we'll tell you that too.
